Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets - primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people - to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

Business Idea from SWAAR wins first price at SW Finance in Copenhagen

What was merely a good idea in Aarhus only 14 days ago has turned into a viable business plan, strong enough to take the first price in the finance special in Copenhagen.

After another 54 hours of hard work, the team behind Oncurex managed to impress the judges and get not only the prize, but also a few serious business offers.

In the process the name has changed to MoneyDrop, but the core idea remains the same. The team is eager to get things moving, and hope that the prize can attract seed capital to get the business started.

- Most innovative idea: Guide a Blind – wants to improve the blind and partly-sighed people lives. A technical solution plus a community of people who are willing to volunteer are the means through which this objective could be achieved.

- Best pitch: Ugift.me – uGift.me is a web based service, where you can create and organize your personal wish list of desired gifts for an occasion and share them with your friends. Never get that ugly garden gnome for your birthday anymore!

15 projects to be worked on

Teams are now formed and fully functional! At Startup Weekend Aarhus we have 15 teams which equals 15 great projects that the participants are working on!

The 15 projects are:
- GP-Desk: A solution to locate employees from organizations at their locations. The employees log into the application and their avatar shows up in the blueprint of the office so all their colleagues can locate their peers improving communication within the company

- Song-Elect: Democratizing the music of choice! Music-loving customers and party-attendees will go to songelect.com, log in to the club or party and vote for their favorite music.

- NextText (former Dyslexia): A computer program to help people learn how to read, by letting them read a text from the screen. The program will listen to the reader and recognize which words wasn’t pronounced correctly. The program will correct the student by marking the wrong words. The program will also be able to read the text loud to the student.

- Ugift.me: Gives you the opportunity to create and organize a list with all the desired gifts for your special occasion and then share them with your buddies – friends, colleagues and others.

- Study2business: Creating a platform for students and companies to connect with each other

- Whack or swag: Simple site where you post photos and get your friends’ opinions by sharing a link.

- C my point: It’s a new solution how to create a good and memorable presentation.

- AppEventor: Creating apps to help you organise and run your events

- Party Tracker: Helps remember the party that you, for many and unspecified reasons, cannot remember the day after. Recreate yesterdays party in pictures, videos, comments etc. with your friends and share the map with tracks and photos with your friends using your smartphone.

- Guide a Blind: Wants to improve the blind and partly-sighed people lives. A technical solution plus a community of people who are willing to volunteer are the means through which this objective could be achieved.

- Edusketch: A website which will help youngsters about to finish highschool to get inspired about what studies would suit them. We ask them about their interests first to offer the right courses.

- Taggle: An app + device to find your lost keys easily

- Ach!eve: Facebook-app that helps you achieve your personal goal.

- Oncurex: An online platform that transfer spare foreign change to customers. The customers deposit their spare foreign currency at the boarding areas on cash-handling machines, that can take local bills and coins.

120 people gathered for this round of Startup Weekend Aarhus! Networking games.. 37 awesome pitches.. Local TV (tv2 østjylland) coverage during the pitches – and we are off!

We’ve heard pitches about an app to help blind people navigate; a webtool to help you achieve your goals in life; and even an app that can make your bicycle sound like a Ferrari.

Now, teams are starting to take form around the great ideas presented here today.. Stay tuned!
